Colorado’s premier Irish music ensemble was back with the BSO for two special holiday performances. One performance was a near sellout and the other performance was an official sellout.

Our season closed with concert favorites of the 19th and 20th centuries, which included: A Foggy Day (Gershwin), April in Paris and Stella by Starlight. Also on the program were the winners of our 2018 Youth Concerto Competition.
Summer 2017 Activities
We were at the Brunner House with our instrument "petting zoo" for their Summer Sundays events on June 11, July 9, and August 13 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. The kids always enjoy trying out the various instruments. In addition, we were featured at the "Cuddletime" instrument petting zoo and demo for babies up to two years old at the Broomfield Auditorium the morning of Saturday, July 8.
An Evening of John Williams

For our season finale, the BSO presented "An Evening of John Williams," featuring many of his well-known movie music scores including: Selections from Star Wars, Selections from E.T., Raiders March, Selections from Harry Potter, and Superman Returns. We also featured our 2017 Youth Concerto Competition Winners. Our annual "Cork Pull" (random wine bottle for $15) fundraiser was held at the second performance on May 25 and was another success.

It was a unique opportunity to see Buster Keaton's classic silent movie "The General" complete with live music performed by the BSO. Our special guest arranger and piano accompanist was Rodney Sauer.
Peter and the Wolf

Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf" was back after two years and it was another sellout! We also performed the music of Bizet. Members of Dance Arts Studio joined us for the Bizet, and special guest Paul Derda narrated Peter and the Wolf.

We performed many holiday classics to include The Nutcracker, Sleigh Ride, etc., as well as a musical version of "A Visit From St. Nicholas" narrated by Steve Rausch. The second Sunday performance was a near sellout.

Our well attended season opening concert featured the popular Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World," as well as the music of Mendelssohn (Hebrides Overture) and Grieg (Peer Gynt Suite No.1).
Our 2015-2016 season closed exploring the music of Spain and Latin America, and featured our three amazing 2016 Youth Concerto Competition Winners. The two performances were May 26 and May 27, 2016. We also held a successful "Cork Pull" fundraiser featuring bottles of wine donated by the BSO members.
An Evening of Tchaikovsky
We performed selections from Sleeping Beauty and the Serenade for Strings at this sold out concert on Saturday, April 9, 2016. This near sellout performance on February 2, 2016 featured Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream, featuring Broomfield's Dance Arts Studio, as well as vocalists Lee Ann Scherlong and Sarah Davis Eaton.

October 2015 - Past to Present
For this sellout performance on October 23, we featured AvantClassical violinist Gregory Walker performing Sarasate's Carmen Fantasy, as well as compositions of his own. In addition, we performed Beethoven's 8th Symphony and Rossini's Barber of Seville. Our guest artist Gregory Walker charmed all with his violins, including some who were serenaded during the final "Carmen Fantasy" by Sarasate. From Wayne K.: "Wonderful & enjoyable. December 2015 - March of the Toys
On Friday, December 11 and Saturday, December 12, 2015, the BSO featured the Broomfield Children's Chorus, as well as vocal soloists Sarah Davis Eaton, Juline Gilmore, and Haley Dove Montoya for the near sellout performances. We performed Christmas-themed music including The Polar Express, Hansel and Gretel, March of the Toys, various Christmas Carols, and Missa Brevis by Broomfield's own Evan Copley. The "Jingle Bells" encore with everyone was a big hit.
In partnership with A Precious Child, we held a successful toy toy drive as well, with total donations valued at ~ $650.

December 2014 - My Town: Broomfield Symphony Orchestra, Young jazzing up Christmas tunes
The Broomfield Symphony Orchestra will presenting its annual Christmas program, "Cool Yule," Saturday and Sunday at the Broomfield Auditorium. The concerts will feature jazz violin and guitar legend Lionel Young and his band, joined by the BSO for, as Young puts it, "definitely very cool" versions of holiday favorites. Read more here
May 2014 - Broomfield Symphony Orchestra, concerto winners heading to Broadway
The Orchestra Thursday and Friday will present "On With The Show! Music of Broadway." The peformance will feature music from the classic and contemporary Broadway stage, as well as two special guests. Also appearing will be winners of the orchestra's annual concerto competition — Tatia Slouka and Abigail Enssle. Read more here.
May 2013 Broomfield Symphony Orchestra ready to set sail for Vienna - Broomfield Enterprise
Waltzes, polkas and violin concertos, oh my. The Broomfield Symphony Orchestra invites all comers to experience the dynamic sounds of Vienna at a pair of upcoming concerts. Drawing on the long tradition of New Year's Day concerts in the Austrian capital, the orchestra's "A Night in Vienna" will feature the musical talents of guest vocalist Lee Ann Scherlong and Youth Concerto Competition winners Eloise Hodges, violin, and Andrew Peeples, cello. For our holiday concert, we went big again by inviting the Broomfield Symphony Orchestra Chorus (with Soprano Soloist Rebecca Arendt conducting) to perform selections from The Messiah. In addition to the final (and famous) "Hallelujah!," the sell-out audience at the Broomfield United Methodist Church also got to hear ten other selections from the work. The orchestra also performed a couple of Leroy Anderson crowd pleasers including "Sleigh Ride," along with the Alfred Burt Carols and Selections from Hodie.

Our season opening concert was essentially another sell-out success (actually just shy of a sell-out). Jeffrey Watson (Colorado Springs Philharmonic) was able to help us out on short notice as our cello soloist for the Dvorak Cello Concerto after planned soloist was not able to perform with us. Members of the Broomfield Symphony Orchestra demonstrated various instruments during the Summer Sundays fun at the Brunner House, Broomfield. The monthly program presented by the Broomfield Council on the Arts and Humanities features fun and games for kids, food and live music one Sunday a month to ring in the season. The closing performance of the season actually ended up being two performances of the same concert. Since our attendance this season has been record setting, we decided on a Thursday and Saturday night concert at the Broomfield Auditorium. The concert was a mix of jazz, blues, rock and roll, and of course featured our two Youth Concerto Competition winners. The combine performances were yet another "single performance" sellout. A warm and sunny afternoon was perfect for our recent "An Afternoon at the Opera" performance at Broomfield United Methodist Church featuring guest artists Margaret Ozaki Graves, Lee Ann Scherlong, Jonathan Hodel, and Steven Taylor. The performances were enjoyed by all in attendance. The Broomfield Enterprise had a nice feature article on concert.

A record eighteen middle and high school students auditioned at our annual Youth Concerto Competition today! The two winners will perform with the orchestra at our May 17 and May 19 (two performances) 'Rock & Pops' concert, so mark your calendars. The middle school winner was Forest Amber Borealis, and the high school winner was Natalie Hodges (both play violin).

The Broomfield Enterprise ran a very nice story on our 30th Anniversary season, and our performance on October 22 at the Broomfield Auditorium featuring piano soloist David Korevaar. The concert was a surprise sell-out, as in addition to our local audience, David brought quite a large group of first time BSO concert-goers from Boulder as well.

The Broomfield Days celebration went very well! More than 75 kids got to check out various instruments in the "petting zoo." We got to introduce hundreds of people to the BSO and what we do. Our season flyers almost ran out and we had many sign-ups for our concert email mailing list.
